In order to obtain Ukrainian citizenship using the simplified procedure, it takes only 3 months. In accordance with domestic legislation ("Law about Citizenship"), citizens of other states, as well as stateless persons, can become Ukrainian citizens in a simplified manner.

The law provides for the possibility of obtaining Ukrainian citizenship:

  • by birthright;
  • by origin from a certain territory;
  • when restoring citizenship;
  • in case of adoption;
  • when receiving guardianship or custody of children;
  • when receiving guardianship over incapacitated persons;
  • if the parents have Ukrainian citizenship;
  • in establishing the facts of paternity or maternity.

Other grounds that are provided for by various agreements of the international order between our country and other states may also be taken into account.

If you need to obtain Ukrainian citizenship, you need to draw up an application, which is sent to the appropriate body of the migration service in your city, district or region.

If a person who is acquiring citizenship by a simplified procedure does not currently reside in our country, you must contact the nearest consular institution or diplomatic mission of Ukraine abroad.

Applications are considered with subsequent making decision in the main departments of the migration service in Kiev.
